SMOK T-Priv Box Mod

The SMOK T-Priv 220w comes complete with a TFV8 big baby sub-ohm tank atomizer, a micro USB cord to recharge the batteries and update the box, a resistance, and a spare pyrex as well as a user manual. Simply pre-soak the coils in E-liquid, insert two batteries, and you’ll be ready to vape.

The finish on the set is very good, the solid lines and tight construction make it a quality vape mod.  All the adjustments are accurate, and the buttons do not move in their slots. In use, this kit leaves an impression of reassuring reliability, with dual capacity battery power and customizable LED lighting features.

The design of the SMOK T-Priv box mod is not your classic vape and it is a big hit. The first thing you will notice is obviously the openings in the metal frame of the box, which show a white inner box. That is actually a diffuser, the box is lit by LEDs from the inside. A menu allows choosing the color of the light, possibly a fast or progressive succession of colors. The lighting can remain off if you wish, or turn on either when you vape or permanently. Totally useless to the vape that goes without saying, but it is the aesthetic signature of this model.

The SMOK T-Priv trigger is on the upper part of the colored sidebar, the click is firm and pleasant. This trigger is also very well done, it does not have the slightest game and is more reliable to use. There are adjustment buttons on the other side, just a little beyond the chassis.

The connection 510 is good, even if a slightly longer stroke of the spring of the positive stud would not have hurt. Just next to the screen, it leaves enough room for atomizers in 25mm which is perfect.

The battery compartment hatch is easy to handle, but it has a little too much play in the open position. The two 18650 that power the box fit easily, the contact pads inside are mounted on springs and the batteries do not move in their housing. It does not leave a lot of admiration, but it does the job.

T-Priv Display

The screen is readable but lacks a little contrast, you will not see any indication in full sun. The operation of the menus is intuitive. The box of course offers a power control mode and temperature control in ni200, titanium, and stainless steel. You can also adjust the available power in CT and the coefficient of the wire, useful if you use stainless steel 304 or 316L for example.

You can also adjust the operation of the light around the box, by setting the color you want, either fixed or changing, as well as various parameters such as the brightness of the screen and its orientation. There are no settings for heating curves, but you will have soft, normal, and hard modes to modulate the power at the beginning of the vape, which is largely sufficient in the vast majority of cases. The menus lose very few features to gain a lot in simplicity.

Chipset Inside the SMOK T-Priv

Electronics is rarely the highlight of SMOK mods, and this one is good without being exceptional. In power control mode, the box is accurate and delivers the displayed power as long as the resistance is not too high compared to the requested power. The box suffers a bit of a maximum output voltage of 6.7 volts only, unlike 9v often mentioned.

The signal is happily clean at 20 watts and the constant and pleasant vape is the least we can ask.

When you set the SMOK T-Priv at 150 watts, it remains quite convincing, but with a little excessive latency, 132 milliseconds between the trigger and the arrival of power. It is not catastrophic but it feels a little in the vape despite everything. This latency increases with power, it is only 60 milliseconds at 20 watts.

In control of the temperature, the box protects very well your assembly in case of lack of liquid, cotton spring in damage of the dry test.

The vape in temperature control remains the weak point of this electronics, as on many SMOK boxes. In itself the signal is smooth, and so is the vape, but it lacks consistency. This route is made with cotton properly soaked throughout the puff, and yet the box gradually decreases the power sent to the resistance. The vape is nice at first, then quickly becomes too weak.

The TFV8 Big Baby

The atomizer kit is a good sub-ohm, pleasant to use, and no big surprise. The filling is done from above, by swiveling the upper part and the drip tip as on many SMOK models. The drip tip is very wide and not interchangeable, which is a shame. It corresponds quite well to the aerial vape and vapor production-oriented of this atomizer. The two resistors provided, a big single-coil or quad-coils will leave you no choice but to vape at 70 watts minimum. The rendering of flavors is good for this type of product, on average to say it simply. In a word, a good atomizer sub-ohm, without that there is enough to wake up at night.

The SMOK T-Priv is complete with all of the main components you need to start vaping.  The only things you need are your batteries and E-Liquid.
