The simplest method to achieve fresh flavor and performance is to clean your vape after each flavor change. The chemicals in vape juice will not usually stain your gear, but residue will build up over time, affecting performance. Coils are infamous for gunking up when using vegetable glycerin, some dark e-juice flavorings, and notably sweet tastes. A clogged coil will produce less flavor and vapor, as well as making your vape taste burned.
Even if you replace the coil head, the flavor from your previous juice may remain in your device. Chocolate, cinnamon, tobacco, coffee, and other strong tastes like grape, or watermelon fall into this category. Consider attempting to vape a grape-flavored chocolate e-liquid. You may have some chocolate flavor still lingering behind as you add a fresh refill of grape juice.
Brand new vape tanks and coils. It’s not uncommon for atomizers and tanks to smell like machine grease when they arrive. They may not appear to be filthy, but the distinctive odor will alert you to their presence. Cleaning your tank, whether it’s new or old, is a simple method to provide the greatest possible experience. Fortunately, most tanks these days are simple to clean if you follow the correct measures.
Please follow our “how to clean your vape” guide to help ensure a clean vape without damaging any of the components during the cleaning process.
Ways to clean a vape tank
The first step is to remove the coil and put it aside for a coil cleaning. Take apart the remainder of the tank while you’re at it. Pay careful attention to how pieces go together and jot down what belongs where in your head. Organize everything and don’t lose anything. You can keep everything in a small dish while you’re doing this. Cleaning will be a lot more efficient as a result of this, as well as acquainting yourself with the intricacies of your tank. There are other methods for cleaning your vape tank, but these are the most efficient.
Heat Clean Rinse
Warm water works great if your tank is pretty clean. Dismantle the tank and separate the components. Place each component under running water and dry with a paper towel. After that, let them air dry until no more water or dampness is evident. If you haven’t cleaned your tank in a while, you may need to take an extra step.
Fill your cup or dish halfway with water. Then microwave it on high for 2-3 minutes. Meanwhile, start the procedure by rinsing the sections of your tank under the sink. Remove the cup or dish from the microwave and insert your dismantled tank inside.
Allow time for the water to cool before giving your tank one more rinse under the sink. Dry your tank gently and carefully with a paper towel. Set it aside to dry fully. You may speed up the process by using a blow dryer, but too much heat will harm your O-rings.
Rinse with PG
You may immerse your tank with propylene glycol instead of water. Simply pour your PG into a dish or cup and let your dismantled tank there for an hour or two. Because VG is a lot thicker liquid, it will make cleaning your tank much more difficult.
When your tank has finished soaking in PG, set it up on a napkin to dry. Propylene glycol is a great flavor transporter, thus this how to technique is ideal for getting rid of any residual taste.
Household Cleaning Solutions
If you want even greater results, you may deep clean your tank with some common home products. After using them, be sure to properly clean them and allow your tank to dry.
- Vodka – Although vodka is not a common household staple, you may probably buy a cheap bottle of it at your local supermarket. It will get the job done and won’t break the bank.
- Vinegar – This is a highly acidic cleaning product that must be washed completely to avoid residual odors.
- Ethanol Alcohol – often known as grain alcohol, is another powerful cleaning agent. Don’t confuse this with isopropyl alcohol, which you shouldn’t use on the interior of your tank.
- Baking soda – is an effective cleaning chemical that may be used to restore the luster of tanks.
- Dish Soap – Instead, some vapers like to combine dish soap with lemon juice or water. This is not a highly recommended way to clean your vape tank, but if you do, remember to rinse thoroughly, as vaping dish soap is likely to be a pretty nasty way to clean out your mouth.
You’ll need an ultrasonic cleaner to achieve the most thorough cleaning possible for your vape tanks. Originally developed for cleaning jewels and rare metals, this product is today used by vapers all over the world to clean their atomizers. While you don’t need a vape-specific ultrasonic cleaning, the ones that can operate for 10-minute cycles are excellent.
It is not difficult to use an ultrasonic cleaner. Simply fill it with water, place all of your vape tank’s components inside, and run it until everything is clean. It’s possible to add a few drops of dishwashing liquid to your ultrasonic cleaner, but it’s not required. After that, give your tank another rinse and let it dry.
How to Clean Coils
Cleaning coils is a little more difficult. There are two types of replaceable coils: coil heads for tanks, which are contained in a tiny metal chamber with an absorbent wick, and coils for rebuildables, which the user must install and wick. The how to cleaning methods for the two kinds are drastically different.
Replacement Cartridge Coils
Replacement coil heads for sub ohm tanks and clearomizers can be cleaned, but they will not be entirely revived. In the best-case situation, you can extend the life of a worn-out coil head by a few days. The existence of wicks is the cause for this. Some residue may be removed by soaking unclean coils and running water through them, but not all. Plus, you’ll have to wait for the water to completely evaporate, which might take some time.
If you still wish to clean your coil heads, the old soak and rinse procedure will suffice.
- Allow your coil to soak for at least a couple of hours in ethanol, vinegar, or cheap vodka.
- Rinse it under running water.
- Rinse clean with distilled water one more.
- Blow air into your coil’s open side to push water into the wicking holes.
- Remove it from the heat and set it aside until all of the water has evaporated.
Although a little sun or a heater can hasten the process, it will still take time. After that, you will see that the wicks will appear a lot better, but don’t get your hopes up. Regardless of how new the coil head appears, it will need to be replaced shortly.
Rebuildable Atomizer Coils
If you’re using a rebuildable atomizer, you should not only be able to clean your coils but you should if you have no plans to build a new coil. The flavor and vapor output of clogged coils will rapidly deteriorate. However, if you follow a few easy procedures, your coils will be virtually as fresh as possible in no time.
You must first remove the cotton wicks from your atomizer coils, since you do not want to burn them. If you cant remove all the cotton, just try to get as much out as you can. A little dry burn will suffice if your coils aren’t too terrible. Pulse the fire button a few seconds until the leftover liquid is removed, then let them cool and re-wick.
However, if you’ve done this a few times before, dry burning might not be enough. In that scenario, you can use these methods to clean more thoroughly.
- Coil wicks should be removed.
- Dry Lightly burn your coils (don’t let them burn too brightly).
- Remove your mod’s atomizer.
- Submerge in flowing water.
- Use a brush or a coil cleaning tool to softly brush them.
- Rinse once more.
- Finish with a dry burn to eliminate any remaining water droplets.
When brushing your coils, you may also use a little dishwashing detergent, but make sure to rinse them completely in hot water afterward.
If your coils are still clogged or your flavor output has decreased noticeably, it’s time to restore your atomizer. Cleaning your coils properly will considerably increase their life, but they will eventually succumb to time and use.
How to clean a Vape Pen
If your vape pen has a removable tank, you may clean it by following the vape tank cleaning instructions. It’s also vital to keep the battery compartment clean, but avoid using water on it. For daily cleaning, a gentle cloth would do, and stains may be wiped with a damp towel. Just make sure the buttons and charging ports don’t get wet.
Things get a little tougher when it comes to one-piece vape pen starting kits. Because water and electronics don’t mix well, even if you properly cleanse your gadget, a variety of things might go wrong. A Q-tip is the safest and most convenient method to clean an AIO vape pen. Wipe the interior of the tank portion thoroughly with a Q-tip soaked in propylene glycol or distilled water. Use a dry Q-tip to go over it once more for even better results. You’ll be able to successfully remove the majority of the muck this way.
How to change E-Juice
The first thing to keep in mind is that mixing various brands of e-juice is perfectly acceptable. It’s a different thing whether you enjoy the flavor of the combination. Cleaning their vapes completely every time they change e-juice sounds like such a lot of effort to most people. Is it necessary to clean your tank in between juices? It doesn’t have to be that way.
It shouldn’t take long for the old taste to be entirely flushed out if you vaped your tank empty before changing e-juice. In fact, some of the in-between puffs may be rather pleasant when vaping on similar taste profiles. However, if the two juices are quite distinct, you are unlikely to appreciate the flavor combination. Here are some things you can do to save time.
Remove all of the e-juice from the tank and take a few quick puffs to dry up the wicks. Take no more than 3-4 puffs to avoid a dry hit. Lowering the wattage on a controlled item will provide you with additional safety. Switching flavors will be much faster now that the wicks are relatively dry—though you may still get some mixed flavor puffs in between.
Blowing into the mouth of your tank whilst firing your mod is another way to eliminate residual taste from your wicks. This will evaporate the final drop of liquid. It’s a helpful tip, but you’ll want to perform it at a very lower power to avoid burning your wicks in the procedure.
The technique is considerably easier for users of rebuildable drip atomizers. RDAs are, in fact, the most effective atomizers for flavor change on the fly. Simply remove the top cover and blow on the coils while igniting the gadget. You’ll notice that your wick is drying out and turning white—don’t overdo it, or you’ll end up burning them. Vape away with some of your fresh e-liquid dripped on your coils.
Vaping some base e-juice among different juices might help you get even greater results. This method works for both tanks and RDAs, and it effectively eliminates residual flavors.
